Introduction
In the modern pharmaceutical industry, the quality of tablets depends not only on their active ingredients but also on the manufacturing technology applied during production. One of the most important and widely used techniques today is tablet film coating technology. This solution helps enhance product stability, improve tablet appearance, and optimize the effectiveness and usability of pharmaceutical products.
With extensive experience in supplying pharmaceutical equipment, Tin Nghi Dac Pharmaceutical Equipment Co., Ltd. provides advanced machinery solutions for modern-standard tablet film coating processes, highlighted by its high-performance Film Coating Machine.
What Are Film-Coated Tablets?
Film-coated tablets are tablets whose surfaces are covered with a thin layer, typically made of a polymer-based film. This coating serves multiple functions: it makes tablets easier to swallow, protects the active ingredients inside, and can even help control how the drug is released within the body. In modern pharmaceutical manufacturing, most film-coated tablets are produced using specialized film coating machines.
This thin outer layer is known as the film coating — an advanced technology designed to protect the medication and enhance its overall effectiveness. With the continuous development of manufacturing technology and pharmaceutical machinery, film-coated tablet products are constantly improving in both quality and absorption efficiency.
To meet the growing demands of pharmaceutical production, Tin Nghi Dac Pharmaceutical Equipment Co., Ltd. provides high-performance Film Coating Machines suitable for:
- GMP-certified pharmaceutical factories
- Dietary supplement manufacturing facilities
- R&D laboratories
- Tablet contract manufacturing workshops

Benefits of Tablet Film Coating Technology
1. Protection of Active Ingredients
- Prevents tablets from absorbing moisture, oxidation, and light-induced degradation
- Enhances the chemical and physical stability of pharmaceutical products
2. Masking Unpleasant Taste and Odor
- Makes tablets easier to swallow, especially for bitter or unpleasant-smelling active ingredients
3. Improved Appearance
- Provides tablets with a smooth, glossy finish and uniform color consistency
4. Enhanced Mechanical Strength
- Reduces breakage and abrasion during packaging, handling, and transportation
5. Controlled Drug Release
- Immediate release
- Sustained/controlled release
- Enteric coating (intestinal-soluble coating)
Basic Steps of the Film Coating Process
1. Preparation of the Coating Solution
A coating solution is prepared using either ready-made formulations or custom-mixed coating materials.
2. Loading Tablets into the Coating Chamber
A batch of tablets is loaded into the film coating machine’s coating chamber.
3. Spraying and Drying Process
The machine sprays the coating solution onto the tablets while the coating pan rotates, allowing the tablets to tumble continuously in a controlled flow. At the same time, heated air is introduced into the system. The warm dry air rapidly evaporates the solvent as soon as the droplets contact the tablet surface, leaving behind solid polymers, plasticizers, and pigments that form a thin protective film around the tablets.
4. Cooling Stage
After the final coating layer is applied, the tablets are cooled to room temperature while still inside the machine. This allows the polymer film to fully cure and harden, ensuring coating stability and durability.

BASIC STRUCTURE OF THE MACHINE

Special Structural Features
- The tapered section is equipped with an additional agitator paddle
- The agitator paddle extends into the straight cylindrical section of the rotating drum
- The rotating drum reverses direction during the discharge process
- Ensures complete product discharge with no material residue remaining inside the machine

Coating Pan
- A rotating drum used to contain the tablets during the coating process
- Designed in either a circular or polygonal shape, with air holes distributed around the pan wall
- Equipped with internal baffles that help tumble and mix the tablets evenly during coating

Types of Coating Pans

Film Coating Spray System
- We use in-house manufactured spray guns optimized for advanced coating spray technology
- A peristaltic pump system is utilized to precisely control the coating solution feed rate
- The control panel automatically adjusts spray pressure and airflow rate, while displaying all operating parameters and system information in real time on the interface

Spray Nozzle Adjustment Knob
- Adjustment knob designed to regulate and reduce the coating solution flow rate
- Helps minimize intermittent spraying and ensures a more stable and uniform coating process

H24 Spray Gun (In-House Manufactured)
The in-house manufactured H24 spray gun is specially designed and optimized to deliver stable and consistent spraying performance during the film coating process.
